Week 1 was a worst case scenario for Demion Pierce. He played only 46% of the snaps and found himself in a three-headed backfield. Mike Boone played the majority of 2-minute drill snaps and 60% of third-down snaps. Devin Singletary participated in early downs and played 21% of the snaps.
To make matters worse, the Texans' O-line is already down three starters this season, with Pierce gaining just 38 yards on 11 carries in Week 1.
The Texans are underdogs in most games. Therefore, Pierce will likely be forced off the field and into a three-back rotation.
Believe it or not, Henry does not lead the Titans in Week 1 RB snaps.
Rookie Tyjae Spears played 54% of the snaps, ahead of Henry's 48%. Still, Henry has 17 opportunities, which is worrisome because Spears has been explosive in the preseason and the Titans clearly want to use him.
Tennessee surprisingly had a top 10 neutral pass rate in Week 1. That means there were more throws than runs in one-point situations. Usually in these situations, they use the run more. This led to an increase in Spears' workload, and he ran 20 routes while Henry only ran 10.
Henry still managed to get 15 touches in most games, but when Tennessee was behind by 7 or more points, he was at increased risk of being faded.
Moore led the Browns in WR usage in Week 1. He ran routes on 80% of his pass plays and had a team-high 7 targets. He also rushed twice for 19 yards, and is in the top 5 WRs with a similar usage rate in the final 7 games of 2021
.
繼續閲讀Moore was used at all levels of the field and gained a total of 62 yards despite being pulled in the 4th quarter due to poor weather in Week 1 and the Browns 20-point lead. Buy this excellent usage at a discount.
Allen was productive in Week 1, scoring 11.20 half PR fantasy points on 9 targets. However, this performance was skewed as Mike Williams missed most of the game with an injury.
But here's the real problem: The Chargers were last in neutral passer rating in Week 1.
This means they had the lowest pass rate in games with a tie or one-point margin. It is clear that new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore wants to take advantage of Austin Ekeler and Joshua Kelly's run game. Both backs had 16 carries for a total of 208 yards.
Allen played in the highest scoring game of the week, and despite missing most of Mike Williams, he scored less than 12 fantasy points - that's not good.
We saw similar Chiefs RB usage to Kansas City last season, but slightly worse. Pacheco's 48% snaps led the Chiefs RBs, but Jerick McKinnon played 31% snaps. Clyde Edwards-Helaire also started and played 14% of the snaps.
Pacheco ranked 141st in RB pass protection last season, and McKinnon was re-signed as a third-down back, so this team will not see much third-down work. This was evident in Week 1 when McKinnon played 86% of his 3rd down snaps.
The Chiefs are a top 5 neutral pass rate team and throw well in tie or one-point games. This leads to fewer rush attempts and means that Pacheco will not get many high fives in the game. As long as he continues in this role, he is a TD or bust player.
Gibbs had a great Week 1 with 9 touches. Despite only 7 carries, he broke a league-high 6 tackles, and was the 7th highest rated RB in Week 1 according to PFF, ahead of Austin Ekeler and Nick Chubb.
Coach Dan Campbell intentionally limited Gibbs' appearances to give him game experience and stated that he would use him more in the future. Gibbs' 6.7 yards gained per touch was tops among all RBs in 2022.
Now, imagine what he would do with more touches.
